REVIEW

My journey through the Kahuna Practitioner training at High Spirits has been extraordinary, uplifting and deeply transformative. I completed Levels 1, 2 and 3 in January, followed by Levels 4 and 5 in September, together with the Kahuna Chair Massage course.

I have also had the privilege of getting to know Mette, the remarkable Danish founder of High Spirits, whose vibrant energy, spirituality and authenticity permeate the school and its teachings. In January I met her dear husband, Jørgen, whose quiet presence and exceptional craftsmanship were also part of High Spirits. I feel particularly fortunate to own one of the beautiful handmade massage chairs personally crafted by Jørgen.

What makes the Kahuna training so powerful is that it goes far beyond learning techniques of massage and bodywork. The courses explore our interconnectedness as living beings — through the seven chakras, our relationship with one another, and our connection with the animal, plant and mineral worlds and the greater universe around us. It opens an awareness that we are connected to energetic forces and relationships far greater than ourselves as isolated individuals.

Equally extraordinary is the human experience of the training. The facilitators and participants I have met have been people of exceptionally high calibre, brought together with clear intention and a genuine commitment to healing, conscious development and interconnectedness.

There is a powerful tribal energy within the group — the spirit of Ohana. You are not simply relying upon individual grit, determination or ego to carry you through the courses. A collective energy develops that supports and carries everyone forward. Intention, movement, learning, laughter and connection come together in a way that is positive, playful, creative and incredibly energetic.

That spirit has perhaps become even more meaningful as High Spirits undergoes a profound transition following the recent passing of Mette’s dear husband, Jørgen. Rather than diminishing what they created together, there is a palpable sense that the Ohana is gathering around Mette to help carry their vision forward. A strong and deeply committed team is stepping into new roles, supporting the school and allowing High Spirits to evolve into its next chapter while honouring the foundations that Mette and Jørgen created together.

There is something very Kahuna about that transformation itself: the individual is held by the group, the group is strengthened by shared intention, and something larger than any one person continues through the community.

I highly recommend the Kahuna Practitioner courses to anyone involved in bodywork or massage therapy, practitioners working in any form of healing, and equally to anyone travelling a pathway of conscious development, deeper awareness and greater connection with themselves, with others and with the living universe around us.

High Spirits is more than a place to learn massage. It is an experience of connection, Ohana, transformation and conscious living.
